Cornhole at the backyard

Cornhole: The Tailgating Game

Cornhole is one of the fastest emerging outdoor and tailgating games today. It is also widely known as the Bean Bag Toss, Hillbilly Horseshoes, Corn Toss, among others. The exact origins of the game are still unknown. However, there is a similar game that is traced back to Germany.

If you’ve never given it a try, cornhole can be personalized or enjoyed with a group. Cornhole is a game played over two wooden platforms placed over a hole in the ground.

Players take turns in throwing out bags that are filled with corn kernels on the platform in an attempt for it to stay still on the board, or to fall right in the hole. This game can be played by two players or with opposing teams.

Corhnole Boards

To add spice to any cornhole game, the use of themed cornholes, stained cornholes, and other customized cornholes came into being. It encouraged many individuals to play the game, especially at barbecues and parties.

Avid sports fans have their cornhole boards embellished with designs to suit their preferences and make the game all the more fun and meaningful for everyone. Diehard cornhole game fans have custom cornholes decorated with their favorite college team logos, designs, and colors.

The cornhole board is highly customizable. Anyone can have it designed and embellished with their preferred colors or theme. When giving these cornhole sets as gifts, one can always find something for a student, policeman, firefighter, bride, or just about anyone. There are even cornhole lights you can purchase so you can play the game during late night parties.

Custom Cornhole Sets

Although there are no professional leagues, hardcore players have gone out of their way to make their cornhole sets distinctive with their own personality. There are cornhole sets which look like they can be used in a commercial establishment.

These are different from those sets built for cornhole playing places. You can make a cornhole set from scratch. These can be customized quite easily and ready for play after a weekend of work. The material of choice is good quality birch plywood.

It should afford the beanbag some bounce and slide when it lands on the board. The board should also be warp-resistant. There is some debate about the use of paint or varnish, but this is a matter of preference.

For those who prefer to buy and customize their own boards, it would be best to buy a wooden board, instead of something made of plastic. The owner can re-paint, or varnish the board with their own signature design. They can also add some flourish on it.

Stickers would not do because it may impede play, changing the way the beanbag would bounce or slide. A decal affords less friction and may be used instead. The board should be painted with care. If the paint is too thick or smooth, it can change the beanbag’s behavior as it lands on the board.

Cornhole is fun and has a lot of the elements of a carnival game. This is the main attraction for a lot of enthusiasts. The novelty of playing on a different board is part of the fun. A portable cornhole board is a welcome addition to any outdoor activity, including tailgate parties.
